Pennsylvania Reserve Battalion : Civil War Weekend at Historic Hanna's Town

Campsites open 10 - 6 on Saturday and 10 - 4 on Sunday (Civil War period church service at 9 AM on Sunday).

Units include the Pennsylvania 9th 10th, 11th.  Also ‘Buck Tails,’ 19th Ohio Artillery, and affiliated Confederate units

Visit Union and Confederate encampments to see what daily life was like for the soldiers in both armies during the Civil War. 

Activities throughout the day:

  • Union & Confederate camps open,
  • Civil War weapons display,
  • Laundry demonstration and discussion about hygiene and sanitation of the period,
  • Drawings of camp-life and battlefield by ‘embedded’ artist,
  • Civil War Surgeon's Tent open illustrating period medical practices.

Scheduled Activities SATURDAY:

10:00 a.m. Dress parade and drill

10:30 Artillery Demonstration

11:30 Little Soldier Battle for children 6 and older

  • Book discussion by Marge Burke, author of Letters to Mary

12:30 p.m. PowerPoint program by Dr. John Rathgeb, Surgical and Medical Practices of the Civil War

2:00 Battle Reenactment

3:00 Book Discussion & Signing by Jim Douglass, author of The Bloody Eleventh: A Regimental History, and Born to Serve: The Major A. G. Harper Story

4:00 PowerPoint program by Dr. John Rathgeb, Surgical and Medical Practices of the Civil War

9:00 a.m. Civil War-era Worship Service at the picnic pavilion.

10:00 a.m. Battalion Drill

10:30 Artillery Demonstration

11:30 Little Soldier Battle for children 6 and older
