The 2021 Arthur St. Clair Historic Preservation Award will be presented at the 21st annual Arthur St. Clair Historic Preservation Awards Dinner on Wednesday, October 20, at Rizzo’s Banquet Hall in Crabtree.
The St. Clair Award is presented to those individuals, organizations, businesses or educational institutions that have made a significant and sustainable contribution to the preservation of our historic places, documents, records or stories, and by doing so, are keeping alive Westmoreland County’s rich history and heritage for future generations.
The award is named in honor of Arthur St. Clair, an important figure in the founding of Westmoreland County. When the cause of the American Revolution beckoned, Arthur St. Clair answered that call and rose to the rank of Major General in the Continental Army. After the war he served as the president of Congress under the Articles of Confederation and as the first governor of the Northwest Territory.
5:45 p.m. – Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and cash bar
6:30 p.m. – Buffet dinner
Congratulations to the 2021 Awardees:
- Timothy Kelly, Margaret Powers, and Michael Cary, authors of Hope in Hard Times: Norvelt and the Struggle for Community During the Great Depression.
- Murrysville Historical Preservation Society, for management of historic buildings and related educational programs.
- Mike Payne, for outstanding service to preserve the history of the Lincoln Highway.

Come volunteer at the Westmoreland Historical Society and Historic Hanna’s Town!
We will be having our first volunteer meeting of the year on Wednesday, February 22nd and also on Saturday, February 25th. We will be having two meetings to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. If you can’t make it Wednesday, come Saturday! Both meetings will begin at 1:00 p.m. in our Education Center.
Volunteers can work with the public by greeting visitors, leading programs and tours, and helping at the gift shop, or can assist behind-the-scenes shelving books in the library, setting up for events, or caring for our gardens. Volunteer hours are flexible and customizable. There are many ways to get involved and help us preserve and share local history.
This is a general meeting for returning and new volunteers to introduce themselves and to plan and discuss the upcoming season at Historic Hanna’s Town, with the intent of setting up later volunteer trainings and orientations for those interested in guided tours, school tours, etc. This will be a point of discussion at this volunteer meeting, and those interested in volunteering with the shop, library, or other opportunities can also call to set up private training.
Volunteering is a great opportunity to share your skills with others – and learn new ones, too. We are open to volunteers of all backgrounds, including but not limited to high school and college students, homeschool students, retirees, teachers, and history enthusiasts.
