Morewood Massacre (of striking workers).  After 1,200 striking workers marched on Morewood Coke Works, one of the H.C. Frick Coke Company sites, Governor Robert E. Pattison ordered the local National Guard unit into Morewood.  When, on April 2, another group of approximately 1,000 strikers marched into Morewood, the guardsmen opened fire and killed seven workers.  The defeated strikers returned to work by the end of May.
