Thank you to the Westmoreland Land Trust and educator Paula Purnell for a great birdwatching class at Historic Hanna’s Town! Paula’s “Be a Better Birder” family-friendly program introduced participants to the skills and resources needed to improve their birdwatching skills.

Participants learned about bird characteristics, types of feathers, identification techniques, and birding apps that help identify species and log checklists. The group then explored the property with binoculars in hand, finding at least twelve species of birds, including bluebirds, goldfinches, an indigo bunting, and hummingbird.

As a county park and historic site with a variety of habitats, Historic Hanna’s Town is a birding hotspot, with over 50 species logged in the last year: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L12303561

Thank you again to everyone who participated!
