Historic Hanna’s Town is proud to participate in and be a registration site for the 19th annual March for Parks, coordinated by Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation Citizens Advisory Board.
The March for Parks is a fun event to raise money for new park & trail projects in Westmoreland County. However, due to pandemic precautions, we are not able to host the traditional March for Parks event in 2021. However, marchers (and their dogs!) can still pick a park or trail on Saturday, March 27, have a good time on their own and have a more widespread opportunity to support all 10 of our county parks and 5 trails.
Click the “Register Now” link and follow the process to pre-register. Please select one of the nine locations where you’ll check-in at on March 27. You can also donate online when you pre-register; online donations are made through PayPal.
Visit the March for Parks website and download an informational brochure for full details.
We will have 9 registration locations around Westmoreland County for marchers to check-in with their donations:
- Historic Hanna’s Town (Westmoreland History Education Center at 809 Forbes Trail Road, Greensburg, PA 15601)
- Twin Lakes Park (Activity Center – Lower Lake)
- Northmoreland Park (Activity Center)
- Cedar Creek Park (Activity Center)
- Mammoth Park (Pavilion 13)
- Bridgeport Dam Park (Main Entrance)
- Westmoreland Heritage Trail – Murrysville (Community Center @ 3091 Carson Ave., Murrysville, PA 15668)
- Westmoreland Heritage Trail – Export (Trolley @ Lincoln Ave.)
- Ann Rudd Saxman Nature Park (Between 194 & 214 Donohoe Road, Greensburg)
Participants who register to visit Historic Hanna’s Town will meet at the Westmoreland History Education Center and be directed from there. Historic Hanna’s Town includes walking paths, scenic woodlands and open fields, and a variety of historic points of interest, including 18th and 19th century log buildings, and an historic fort.
When you register at one of the 9 locations on March 27:
- Check-in any time between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
- Turn in all donations and contributions
- Pick up your t-shirt or doggie bandana if you turn in $30 or more
- Purchase a raffle ticket or sign up for a silent auction for a chance to win some great prizes!
- March/walk/explore at your convenience
When you register on March 27, be sure to pick up your “Parks Passport” destination guide!
The “Parks Passport” is an informative guide to our 10 Westmoreland County parks and 5 trails. The Passport encourages marchers to visit and learn more about Westmoreland County’s hidden gems! And the fun doesn’t end on March 27! Visit 10 of our 15 County parks and trails and take a photo or selfie near a recognizable feature in each location. Post 10 photos from different locations on Instagram—be sure to tag @marchforparks or #marchforparks in your post to be entered into a great prize drawing!

Come volunteer at the Westmoreland Historical Society and Historic Hanna’s Town!
We will be having our first volunteer meeting of the year on Wednesday, February 22nd and also on Saturday, February 25th. We will be having two meetings to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules. If you can’t make it Wednesday, come Saturday! Both meetings will begin at 1:00 p.m. in our Education Center.
Volunteers can work with the public by greeting visitors, leading programs and tours, and helping at the gift shop, or can assist behind-the-scenes shelving books in the library, setting up for events, or caring for our gardens. Volunteer hours are flexible and customizable. There are many ways to get involved and help us preserve and share local history.
This is a general meeting for returning and new volunteers to introduce themselves and to plan and discuss the upcoming season at Historic Hanna’s Town, with the intent of setting up later volunteer trainings and orientations for those interested in guided tours, school tours, etc. This will be a point of discussion at this volunteer meeting, and those interested in volunteering with the shop, library, or other opportunities can also call to set up private training.
Volunteering is a great opportunity to share your skills with others – and learn new ones, too. We are open to volunteers of all backgrounds, including but not limited to high school and college students, homeschool students, retirees, teachers, and history enthusiasts.
