Join us at Historic Hanna’s Town for a fun celebration of fall and the Halloween season with historic demonstrations and outdoor activities.
Members of Proctor’s Militia, I.B.W.C.P., will be encamped at Historic Hanna’s Town and sharing the history of the Westmoreland County militia, established at Hanna’s Town in 1775, and life for settlers on the Pennsylvania frontier. Additionally, the Loyalhanna Spinners will present historic textile making demonstrations, and the Blacksmith Shop will be open for demonstrations.
Children and families can enjoy trick or treating at all the different locations, as well as fall crafts, candle making, toys & games and a Halloween themed scavenger hunt. We encourage dressing up in costume for trick-or-treating around the historic site. Take a self-guided walk along our woodland trail and and learn the traditions of Halloween, and enjoy the fun of a hay ride around the field by the reconstructed fort. Hayrides will be available from 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Suggested donations are $5 a family or $2 a person.
Proctor’s Militia will demonstrate 18th century military drills tentatively at 1:00 p.m. (weather depending). Following the drills around 1:30 p.m., follow Lisa Hays, on a guided walk up to the family cemeteries on the hill. Learn about the families who settled the property after the destruction of Hanna’s Town and the history of how cemeteries have changed over time.
The Westmoreland History Shop will feature seasonal décor and a preview of holiday merchandise, as well as local history books for adults and children, 18th century inspired toys and games, historically inspired home decor, handmade ceramics and jewelry, and Hanna’s Town themed keepsakes.
PROGRAM FEE: Enjoy all activities with our regular admission price to Historic Hanna’s Town. Free for Westmoreland Historical Society members and children 5 and under; $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students through grade 12.

Event Details
Discover the vibrant world of watercolor painting through the unique palette crafted from farm products and local foraged pigments at Historic Hanna’s Town. We will be walking the trails and area to collect pigment and create our own watercolor paint with local farm fresh honey!
What are natural watercolor pigments? Natural watercolor pigments are derived from organic materials, offering a rich, earthy palette that synthetic paints often lack. By using elements sourced from local farms and natural foraging, artists can create stunning works that reflect the beauty of their surroundings.
Please dress accordingly for walking in wooded areas.
Historic Hanna’s Town is a beautiful and quiet Westmoreland County park. While we do work to preserve our historic built environment on site, we are also dedicated to preserving our natural environment through demonstration gardens, native plant restoration, and developing walking trails.
Pre-registration encouraged. Walk-ins also welcome. Please check in at the front desk of the Museum Shop upon arrival.
$10 for non-members | $8 for members.
