Our annual Made in Westmoreland program will be on-site at West Overton, the birthplace of Old Overholt. The program will feature a presentation with samples offered of five different whiskeys, light bites, and tours of the Overholt house and museum. This program is for adults only and costs $30. Please call 724-836-1800 x210 to make your reservation and pay by credit card. Or send a check payable to Westmoreland Historical Society to 809 Forbes Trail Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.
Our modern whiskey production draws inspiration from the entrepreneurship of the Overholt family at West Overton, who cultivated a small distilling operation on the family farm into a thriving professional business. The Overholts established the Old Overholt brand of Monongahela rye whiskey, considered the classic American whiskey. (westovertonvillages.org)

Join archivist, historian and author Thomas White as he explores the history and cultural meaning behind some of our region’s early legends and supernatural tales. Hear the stories of Old Tom Fossit, Braddock’s Gold, and the legend of Oppaymolleah’s Curse. Encounter the ghosts who haunt the Old Quaker Church, the spirits of escaped slaves and a confederate soldier on Duquesne’s campus, and the spirits of the Depreciation Lands Museum. Learn the truth about the Witch of the Monongahela, Judge Reddick’s contest with the Devil, the area known as “The Dark Place”, and many other spooky tales.
A variety of books by Tom White will be available to purchase in our Museum Gift Shop.

About the Speaker:
Thomas White is the University Archivist and Curator of Special Collections at Duquesne University. He is also an Adjunct Professor in Duquesne’s History Department and an Adjunct Professor of History at La Roche University. White specializes in public history, folklore and the history of supernatural beliefs. He is the author of 11 books including The Witch of the Monongahela: Folk Magic in Early Western Pennsylvania, Legends and Lore of Western Pennsylvania, Haunted Roads of Western Pennsylvania, Supernatural Lore of Pennsylvania: Ghosts, Monsters and Miracles, Forgotten Tales of Pittsburgh, Ghosts of Southwestern Pennsylvania, and Witches of Pennsylvania: Occult History and Lore.

The quaint and historic setting hosts numerous vendors offering a variety of one-of-a-kind items covering a wide price range.Antiques and Collectibles is held the second Sunday of the month May through October. For 2026, these dates are May 10, June 14, July 12, August 9, September 13, and October 11.This event will be held rain or shine. Sorry, no pets are permitted; service animals only.ADMISSION: $5 per car.VENDORS: Vendors of antiques, folk art, historical crafts, and collectibles (please no flea market items) are welcome to set up for the day or weekend.
