Irish genealogy experts Fintan Mullan and Gillian Hunt from the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast are back for the eighth annual Irish Genealogy Workshop.
Mullan and Hunt will be stateside for the United States tour. Benefitting beginners and seasoned genealogists alike, this in-depth hybrid workshop will examine a multitude of historic records and electronic resources that will advance your Irish genealogy research.
Live presentations include:
- Introduction to Archives in Ireland and Their Websites
- Using Landed Estate Records: Tracing Families in the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries
- The Irish Poor Law and Local Government Records: Board of Guardians, Workhouse Registers and Grand Jury Records
- Emigration from the North of Ireland to North America: Sources for Researching Emigrant Ancestors
Along with experts from the Ulster Historical Foundation, representatives from the History Center’s Detre Library & Archives, the Westmoreland Historical Society, and other local genealogical societies will be on hand to share best practices and tips with visitors and fellow researchers.
REGISTRATION & ADMISSION
Admission is $35 for History Center, Westmoreland Historical Society, and Ulster Historical Foundation Guild members and $45 for non-members.
This is a hybrid program. Attendees can participate either online or in-person at the Heinz History Center.

Special access to recordings of the lectures will be made available to attendees following the live workshop.
This day-long program will explore new insights into a myriad of historic records and electronic resources. Featuring live Question and Answer sessions and interactive networking opportunities, this workshop will foster connections between attendees and expert speakers.

Jessica Young is the owner/operator of Penny River LLC, a company that specializes in making and teaching about 18th century clothing and accessories. A graduate of the University of Richmond with degrees in theatre/costuming and history, Jessica has worked for Colonial Williamsburg as a costumer, and Carnegie Mellon University’s drama department. Through Penny River, she has made garments for a number of museums, theaters, films, and television series, including Outlander and Bridgerton.

Historic Hanna’s Town is a beautiful and quiet Westmoreland County park. While we do work to preserve our historic built environment on site, we are also dedicated to preserving our natural environment through demonstration gardens, native plant restoration, and developing walking trails.

Flannel Roots is an LGBTQIA+ owned regenerative agricultural business that was founded in 2021, rooted in a deep commitment to sustainability and community education. The founders, Brittany and Jill, bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, each contributing unique skills that enhance their mission. Both Brittany and Jill are certified by Mushroom Mountain and hold qualifications in Edible Mushroom Safety Identification, allowing them to safely forage and sell mushrooms. Their main passion lies in exploring the permaculture uses of fungi within ecosystems, and they actively engage in educational pop-ups and workshops.
